In addition to acupuncture, there are other modalities that may be used during your treatment.


Moxabustion:

Moxabustion is the process of burning an herb called mugwort (Ai Ye) over specific acupuncture points or areas of pain. Moxabustion warms the channels, moves stagnation and tonifies Qi and Blood. It can be used to alleviate pain and strengthen vitality in the body.


Cupping:

Cupping is the process of applying glass cups with suction to particular areas of the body. Cupping can be used in the case of muscle pain/tension, to break up phlegm in the lungs, move stagnation, and to release toxins and heat from the body.


Chinese Herbal Medicine:

If herbs are appropriate for your condition, I will prescribe an herbal formula that will enhance the efficacy of acupuncture treatment. Herbs can be taken in pill form, powdered herbs that you mix with hot water, or raw herbs that you prepare at home. Chinese herbs can be a very powerful adjunct to your treatment and help with faster healing from colds and flu’s, decreasing painful periods, assisting with insomnia, alleviating pain and many other conditions.


Gua Sha:

Gua Sha is a body work technique that employs a either a porcelain spoon or a Gua Sha “blade” combined with massage oil to deeply extract heat and move stagnation in the body. It feels similar to a deep tissue massage.
